Cottage ‘U Aleše‘

Our rustic holiday cottage in the hillside village of Plavy, is a lovely, spacious, characterful, and well equipped home in the mountainous north of the Czech Republic, an hour and a half from the beautiful and historic capital, Prague.

Plavy is an ideal all year-round location to use as a base to further explore the Jizera and Krkonose mountains and national parks, as well as the area of Česky ráj (Czech Paradise). The cottage, a former farm house, and the area (with beautiful views of the Jizera mountains), is perfect for families, sports & outdoor enthusiasts, and for those who just want to relax in the idyllic, hilly countryside.

In Spring, Summer & Autumn, it is a perfect place for hiking, cycling/ mountain biking, foraging or just relaxing. The cottage has a swimming pool set into the country side scenery, as well as a swing, sandpit, table tennis table and children’s corner. A 5 minute walk away there is a municipal sports area with tennis court, beachball and playground. There is also an outdoor activity centre (Mala Skala) 20 minutes’ drive away which includes kayaking and bike hire.

In winter, there is a wide choice of ski resorts and cross-country tours and the cottage is situated right by a ski lift (Ski Plavy), which is an ideal family and beginners’ slope. For the more experienced skiers, the larger resorts of Harrachov (30mins drive) and Špindlerův Mlýn (40mins drive) are nearby.

Food and drink:

There is a local supermarket supplied by the local farm, butcher and bakery. There is also an Organic Dairy farm a short walk up the hill where you can buy milk, cheese and butter. You can find a Pizzeria and a Restaurant ‘Pod Schovankou’ in Plavy and there are many other lovely pubs with great food and views of the mountains a short drive/cycle away. Moreover, a fantastic brewery, Svijany (founded in 1564), is 30 mins away by car (or 2 hours by bicycle) and brews traditional Czech lager, and is well worth a tour.

Facilities:

Outside: swimming pool (7x4m), barbeque area, table tennis, place for sports (basketball) sandpit and children’s corner. Parking is right outside the property.

Inside: There are 4 large bedrooms in the house. On the ground floor, there is 1, self-contained apartment with a king size bed and 2 single beds (it includes a bathroom and small kitchen).

In the adjoining main house, there is a fully equipped kitchen/ dining/ sitting area with a TV, wi-fi and electric heating. On the ground floor there is also a double bedroom and large bathroom. On the first floor, there is a large bedroom with king size bed and 2 single beds, and another double bedroom with en-suite which includes a king size bed and single bed. The property can host up to 15 people.

INTERACTION WITH GUEST

Once your booking is confirmed, we are on hand for any of your questions. There is a folder with instructions and trips suggestions including cycling and walking trips as well as places to cross country and downhill ski. A ski rental shop is 3 mins away and bicycle rental 10km away. We would be happy to help facilitate trips from and to Prague or the brewery as well as pre-arrange ski or bicycle hire.
